French girl who stayed with the Britten family from 14 Apr to 7 Aug 1928. Britten generally spelled her name 'Raymond Chevelard' in his diaries, but has written what is probably the correctly spelt name on the fair copy of this song.

Notes

This song was written in the same summer as Quatre chansons francaises but was not included in the group. An earlier work Dans les bois (Jan 1928) for orchestra, although sharing a title, has no other similarity with the song.
